Takura Judges the National Bar Association (NBA) Region VI Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition

Takura Nyamfukudza recently teamed up with two sitting judges and one other experienced litigator to judge the National Bar Association (NBA) Region VI Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition. Six 11th and 12th grade students from Michigan and Tennessee put their persuasive oratory skills to the test and responded to the following questions: “If Dr. King were alive today, would he support cancelling student loan debt in hopes of giving Black people financial freedom and a better quality of life? Would Dr. King support student loans or tuition free colleges? Explain why or why not.” Congratulations to MaKiya Heard, a student from Detroit, for winning this regional competition. MaKiya won a $1,000.00 scholarship and earned a spot in the NBA National Competition!
